Food protein-induced enterocolitis to hen's egg.

چکیده
Food protein–induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is potentially severe, non–IgE-mediated food hypersensitivity characterized by profuse emesis and diarrhea that progresses to dehydration and shock in 15% to 20% of patients. The diagnosis is based on clinical criteria and/or an oral food challenge (OFC). The pathophysiology of FPIES is not well characterized; the gastrointestinal T-cell response to food protein is a plausible mechanism. FPIES is usually caused by cow’s milk or soy in formula-fed infants; solids, such as rice, oat, barley, chicken, turkey, fish, and peanut, can also cause FPIES.We report the case of an infant with FPIES caused by hen’s egg and discuss the clinical features and differential diagnosis of FPIES.

Egg provoked food protein‐induced enterocolitis‐like syndrome in an adult
Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome is a non-IgE-mediated food allergy usually diagnosed in infancy. We report a case of a similar syndrome in an adult, following ingestion of egg. We remind clinicians to consider this diagnosis which may present to emergency physicians and gastroenterologists long before an allergist is consulted.
متن کاملHen's egg allergen in house and bed dust is significantly increased after hen's egg consumption-A pilot study.
Environmental exposure to food allergens may be a risk factor for cutaneous sensitization. Previous studies could detect peanut allergen in house dust. In this pilot study, we wanted to investigate whether hen's egg allergen is detectable in house dust collected from different household areas and whether levels are increased after intentional hen's egg consumption. Hen's egg protein levels of d...
متن کاملSafety and feasibility of heated egg yolk challenge for children with egg allergies.
BACKGROUND Hen's egg allergy is a frequent cause of childhood food allergy. Egg yolk is used in various commonly consumed foods; if children with allergy to hen's egg could eat heated egg yolk, their quality of life (QOL) would improve. No reports exist regarding oral food challenges (OFCs) for heated egg yolk. We aimed to clarify whether pediatric patients allergic to hen's egg could consume h...
متن کاملEgg allergy: an update.
Egg allergy is the commonest infant food allergy both in Australia and world-wide. The clinical presentation of egg allergy is varied - egg is involved in both IgE and non-IgE-mediated allergic reactions and has been implicated in conditions such as anaphylaxis, food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome, atopic dermatitis and eosinophilic oesophagitis. The clinical presentation, pathophysiolo...
